ABSTRACT
In the paper the transient heating of the slab of cast iron in the chamber car-hearth furnace is solved. The heating of the slab is divided into three periods - heating up to approx.750°C − soaking period during which the whole slab reaches the uniform temperature − heating up to approx.1050°C. The heating is solved as a conjugate heat transfer problem, solving the complex conduction, convection and radiation mechanisms. Numerical procedure is based on SIMPLE algorithm. As a result of the solution, the power and number of operating burners are proposed for each of three heating periods.
