ABSTRACT

Natural convection due to spatial variations of fluid density is very important in many natural and industrial problems. The double-diffusive natural convection is of interest of several natural and industrial fields (oceanography, nuclear weast, transformation processes and crystal growth techniques). This work focuses on double diffusive natural convection in square cavity filled with porous media and submitted to cross temperature and concentration flux. We found tree distinct regimes: a fully thermal convective in which flow is essentially due to thermal buoyancy forces, a diffusive one where the solutal forces are enough to produce a stable solutal stratification with no significant convective flow and intermediate regime where competition between the two buoyancy forces take place. In the intermediate regime a hysterisys is observed and two different solutions can be obtained and depend on the initial state.
