ABSTRACT

The structure of the scalar dissipation field is studied by performing direct numerical simulations of a turbulent channel flow with passive scalar transport. The Reynolds number is set to be 180, 395 and 640 based on the friction velocity and the channel half-width. The molecular Prandtl number is 0.71. Near the wall, the scalar dissipation field is associated primarily with anisotropic structures, which reflect the presence of quasi-streamwise vortices and streaks, whereas away from the wall, it is mainly sheet-like in form.
