ABSTRACT

A modified grid based zonal formulation of k−ω−SST−SAS is presented and compared with the original k−ω−SST−SAS of Menter[2] in fully attached flow (turbulent channel flow). The modified model is an extension of the original k−ω−SST−SAS model based on non-equilibrium considerations along with a forced triggering mechanism solely based on the grid structure. The main goal here is to design a new triggering mechanism that makes the model capable of initiating a transition from URANS mode into LES-Like mode even in fully attached turbulent flows, when the base flow is not inherently unstable. It turns out that the modification makes the model capable of triggering a transition from URANS to LES mode in attached flows.
