ABSTRACT
Heat-transport measurements were made in a cylindrical turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection experiment in a new High-Pressure Convection Facility (HPCF) at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen. The cell was L = 2.24 m tall and had a diameter D = 1.12 m. It was filled with N2 or SF6 gas and operated under pressures of up to 15 bars. These measurements covered Rayleigh numbers up to 3 × 1014. They did not reveal a transition to an "ultimate regime" and thus are consistent with measurements by Niemela et al. but differ from those of Chavanne et al..
