DESIGN AND STUDY OF A NEW UWB MICROSTRIP ANTENNA FOR MICROWAVE IMAGING

In this paper, we propose a new ultra wide band (UWB) antenna configuration which has a fork shape, designed for microwave imaging. A superstrate layer is added in the environment of the antenna to increase the performance in terms of gain, and directivity. The proposed antenna is arranged on dielectric substrate (dielectric permittivity εr = 3.34, thickness h = 0.794 mm). The designed antenna has a small size of 20 × 27 mm2, fed by a microstrip line, and the antenna is found to operate in the range of 4 to 11.27 GHz. This ultra wide band antenna was used for microwave imaging system, in particular application such as the breast cancer detection tumor using the Delay and Sum Integration algorithm.
