COMPRESSION OF OPTICAL AND INFRARED PULSES IN QUARTZ CRYSTALS: A RIGOROUS SIMULATION

The paper presents results of numerical simulation of the compression of pulse-modulation plane electromagnetic waves of optical and near infrared ranges in a quartz crystal. The laws of amplitude and frequency modulation are rigorously determined for two pulses of these ranges that they should have in order to their time profile would assume a specified shape after passage of a certain distance in the medium (quartz). It is shown that such pulses can be compressed by 1125 and 2700 times in length over the optical path of 1 m, with their powers being increased by 21.9 and 18.9 dB.
