Applicability of Adaptive Algorithms to Radar Target Identification

As is known [1, 2], the radar target identification algorithms for single-stage decision strategy are classified according to the involvement of the statistics of measured features and disturbance. The highest values of the correct identification probability (CIP) are provided by parametrical and nonparametrical Bayes algorithms. Provided that the Gaussian statistics of measurement errors of uncorrelated features and that of noise are known, the correlation algorithm for radar target identification "C" can be included in the class as well. What impedes implementation of such algorithms is the lack of information on the probability density distributions of measured features and interference. The required parameters are hard to be predetermined in practice because of multitude of simultaneous targets in the radar coverage area. Among the the nonparametrical algorithms of single-stage decision strategy those heuristic which calculate distances provide the highest CIP.
