Краткое описание

The interest toward diffractive properties of layered media is conditioned by the diversity of their application areas. Meanwhile, the current scientific literature offers but a limited number of cases where a special coordinate dependence of material parameters in the layer permits an analytic solution representing wave processes in the medium. Generally, solutions are constructed with the aid of either asymptotic or direct numerical methods. The spectral problem for a non-uniform magneto-dielectric layer was treated within the so called Riccati method, which approach resulted in the construction of a computationally stable algorithm for a variety of spectral problems. The algorithm has permitted investigating the resonance effects that accompany wave interactions with the layered medium, and offered a description, in terms of eigenfrequencies and eigen oscillations, for such familiar concepts as the forbidden zone (in the theory of wave propagation through periodic structures) and resonance in the forbidden zone, arising from violations of periodicity in the material parameters. The results should be useful for studying wave processes in non-uniform magneto-dielectric layers, non-uniform stratified plasma-like media and other layered structures of the kind, without essential limitations on material parameters. They could be used to solve inverse problems of electrodynamics, as well as of holography, tomography, radar, etc.
