ENHANCEMENT OF THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND VISCOSITY OF ALUMINUM COMPONENT−ENGINE OIL NANOFLUIDS

Experimental investigations have been carried out for determining the thermal conductivity of nanofluids with nanoparticles (α- and γ-Al2O3, and AlN) dispersed in an engine oil as the base fluid (up to 3 wt.%). Hot-wire conductivity measurements performed at 300.15 K reveal an increasing tendency with increasing concentration of the dispersant so that by adding 3 wt.% of the dispersant to the oil, great enhancement in the conductivity was recorded to be equal to about 26.10%, 31.47%, 37.49%, and 75.23% for α-Al2O3 (100 nm and 20 nm), γ-Al2O3 (20 nm) and AlN (20 nm), respectively, while their corresponding viscosities rise up to 41.2%, 41%, 40.7%, and 44.14%, respectively.
