Studies on aquatic animals and plants in the rivers contaminated with radionuclides after the Chernobyl accident revealed intensification of photosynthesis in higher plants, green filamentous algae, and phytoplankton, accompanied by an increase in the biomass of both these hydrophytes and the zooplankton.
