Heat Transfer in Stationary and Circulating Fluidized Beds

Heat from a stationary fluidized bed of particles larger than 2 μm to a surface washed by it is transferred by gas convection. At high temperatures radiation makes a noticeable contribution (up to 30%). In a bed of particles smaller than 0.5 μm heat is transferred by particles cooled near the surface and the role of radiation is small. In a circulating fluidized bed the coefficient of heat transfer increases and the role of radiation decreases with the growth of layer density and the resulting development of a boundary layer of the particles descending along the surface.
