FLOW AROUND A CIRCULAR AND A SQUARE CYLINDER IN TANDEM AND SIDE-BY-SIDE ARRANGEMENTS

Краткое описание
The flow field around a circular and a square cylinder due to mutual interference is investigated using flow visualization. Both tandem and side-by-side arrangements are considered when the relative spacing is varied systematically. Results indicate that flow-induced forces can be altered considerably by interference effects. In the tandem arrangement such effects are more severe for the case when the square cylinder is in front and the circular cylinder is at the rear than vice versa. In the side-by-side arrangement, when the two cylinders are very close, the jetlike bleed flow is found to be quite unstable.
