The streamwise and secondary flow structures in a lateral cavity arising from curved parent vessels with radius of curvature to vessel diameter ratios of 2.5, 5, and are presented in terms of ink-streak flow visualization, fluorescent-dye light-sheet visualization, and particle tracking velocimetry visualization. The Reynolds number based on parent vessel diameter and bulk velocity is varied from 70 to 1800. Emphasis is focused on the effects of curvature on the position and size of cavity inflow region in the cross-section of parent vessel's upstream tangent. The evolution of Dean vortices in the curved parent vessel, particularly downstream of cavity, is documented. Furthermore, it is found that the transition of intracavity flow pattern from two counterrotating vortices to a single vortex in the curvature plane can be triggered by increasing curvature or Reynolds number of parent vessel under some appropriate conditions.
