TIMEWISE VARIATION OF TURBULENT JET DIFFUSION FLAME SHAPE BY MEANS OF IMAGE PROCESSING

An experimental study is performed to investigate the timewise morphology of turbulent jet diffusion flames by means of a image processing technique with the aid of the high-speed video camera, in which the color flame images are decomposed into R, G, and B components of the original color image. In particular, each image is transformed into decimal ASCII data to obtain the moving picture. Emphasis is placed on the timewise variation of a high-luminous region inflames. Propane is used as a fuel and its velocity at the nozzle tip is varied from 17.8 to 35.5 m/s. It is found that (1) the turbulent diffusion flame has the high-luminous zone, and (2) the apparent flow velocity of the high- luminous region is approximately constant and is independent of the fuel velocity.
