EFFECT OF THE LIQUID ATOMIZATION QUALITY ON THE PYROLYSIS OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS BY INDUCTION THERMAL PLASMA
Краткое описание
The characterization of a plain-jet air blast atomizer, as used for the pyrolysis of organic compounds in an induction thermal plasma reactor, has been performed. Experimental measurements of the mean droplet size, expressed as the Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD), were obtained using a light-scattering technique. The maximum SMD values observed were smaller than 100 μm in all experimental tests made. A dimensionally consistent expression (2.4 % standard error) for the SMD estimation was determined as a function of the dimensionless numbers: Re, We, ALR and X/do. This empirical correlation permits the influence of the operating conditions of the liquid atomizer, on the quality of the atomization, to be described. Further, the final expression was subsequently and successfully used for the estimation of the size of droplets, produced during experimental tests of the pyrolysis of dodecane (C12H26) and tetrachloroethylene (C2Cl4) by induction plasma.
