Краткое описание

In the mid-20th century, shrewd marketing by United States tobacco companies ("Big Tobacco") allowed cigarette smoking to become almost ubiquitous in America, with most American physicians smoking as well. When information about the dangers of smoking began to surface and create public anxiety, tobacco giants were able to attack this perception by featuring physicians as smokers in their print and television advertising. This article provides sample advertising images with associated critical commentary.
