Ethical Issues in the Development and Use of Embryonic Stem Cell−Derived Gametes
Краткое описание
Embryonic stem cell−derived gametes (ESCDGs) promise a host of new research and clinical opportunities. These include an enhanced supply of oocytes for reproductive research, infertility treatments, and therapeutic cloning research, for genetic engineering in the prevention of germ line and other genetic disorders, and for facilitating parenting by same-sex individuals or couples. But ethical questions abound. Among these are the safety of ESCDG technology for the resulting children, the moral status of human embryos, and the impact on children of the new forms of parenting made possible by this technology. This discussion reviews these uses and critically examines the ethical questions raised by ESCDG technologies.
