%X A semi-analytical method is suggested for determining the reflection and transmission amplitudes of a plane linearly-polarized electromagnetic wave incident obliquely upon an inhomogeneous anisotropic layer characterized by a tensor with its elements being dependent on a single spatial coordinate. The method is based on constructing special solutions of the Cauchy problem for the Riccati equation and enables investigating the process of wave diffraction by the electrodynamic structures of the kind within a unified approach. Efficiency of the suggested technique is demonstrated by a number of examples of solving numerically diffraction problems for inhomogeneous gyrotropic (plasma-like) layers. A long-wave approximation has been obtained for the reflection factor of a plane homogeneous wave incident upon an inhomogeneous gyrotropic layer on the assumption that the layer tensor elements are independent of the frequency parameter.
