Management of these injuries is based on careful evaluation by history, physical examination, radiographic assessment and electrodiagnosis. There have been dramatic advances in surgical techniques and an increased awareness of the importance of nerve grafting and neurotization. An early diagnosis and careful evaluation regarding the extent of the injury facilitates proper management. The severe pain and the functional impairment following avulsion injury leads to functional disability, and should be managed aggressively by a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Effective management of these injuries should be carried out by a multidisciplinary approach to facilitate community and vocational reintegration.
