AB The structure of supersonic nonisobaric jets is studied with Pitot probe methods, particle image velocimetry (PIV) diagnostics, the Schlieren method of flow visualization, and numerical methods. Experimental equipment is described. The flow speed is measured in a subsonic jet with Mach number Ma = 0.9 by PIV method and in a supersonic underexpanded jet with Ma = 1.0. Presented are the results of investigation of the 3-D structure of the supersonic underexpanded jet with the presence of streamwise vortices generated by vortex generators as chevrons situated on the nozzle exit section. The numerical investigation of the initial section of the supersonic underexpanded jet exhausting from a convergent axisymmetric nozzle and a nozzle with chevrons is performed using the commercial program package Fluent.
