We investigated the effects of buoyancy on a spatially developing buoyant jet through direct numerical simulations at Re = 1740. The spectral tendency showed a rapid decay of the buoyant scalar fluctuation at high frequency, the slope of which is -3. The TKE budget revealed that the buoyancy plays a role in the production of turbulence. We calculated the term of the subgrid-scale energy transport equation, which comes from the buoyancy effect, using an explicit box filtering operation. The term took the same sign as the term of the subgrid-scale energy transfer; however, with an increase in the filter size, the term from the buoyancy decreased more drastically than that of the subgrid-scale energy transfer. This tendency was also true in the local coordinate of the turbulent/non-turbulent interface.
