Investigation of temperature influence in the production of higher turbulence
Краткое описание
The design and testing of a turbulence generator aiming at the increase of the turbulence intensity inside a turbomachinery wind tunnel at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics is presented in this paper. A passive turbulence grid is selected as the most suitable method for the current application and two distinct geometries are applied. Characterization of turbulence levels as well as uniformity and losses occurs in situ through total pressure, total temperature and time-resolved hot-wire anemometry measurements. The flow survey focuses also on the temperature effect on the turbulence features. The reported manufactured grid allows increasing the maximum turbulence intensity in the facility to 21.3% at a Mach number of 0.14 and grid bar-based Reynolds number of 62000.
