Аннотация

In this study, engineering building of a higher education institute was selected as the model building. Theoretical analysis was performed for obtaining heating and cooling loads of the building throughout the year. The analysis includes conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer to/from the building, as well as infiltration losses and water heating. The building's energy performance was observed in eight different geographic locations, five in the U.S., and three global locations. These cities are; Boston, Houston, San Diego, Seattle, St. Louis, Berlin, Istanbul, and Shanghai. For each location two different scenarios were examined. These are the north and south building facades having (i) 40% glass area, and (ii) 100% glass area. A freely available software, eQuest, developed by U.S. Department of Energy was used in the simulation analysis. The results showed that increasing glass area can increase the cooling load significantly due to solar radiation being dominant in air-conditioning seasons.
