SELECTIVE PROPERTIES OF AZIMUTHAL-SYMMETRIC DIFFRACTION MIRRORS OF TERAHERTZ LASER

In recent years interest in light fields with inhomogeneous spatial polarization known in scientific literature as "vector beams" has increased. Among them beams with radial and azimuthal polarization of radiation attract the greatest practical interest. Taking into account the features of their propagation and focusing such beams are used for solving various problems in laser physics, biomedical diagnostics, in metal processing technology, high-speed communication, to accelerate electrons etc. The methods and approaches used in forming of laser beams with the required spatial polarization structure in terahertz band are developed only in some papers, and all of them are predominantly referred to the extra-cavity group of methods. For effective intracavity excitation of the transverse mode with inhomogeneous spatial polarization of radiation, the selective properties of the output mirrors of a waveguide HCOOH laser were investigated. The mirrors are made in the form of azimuthally symmetric multiring metal diaphragms with the different periods located on a quartz crystal substrate. Good polarization-selective properties of the small-scale diffraction mirror are shown when generating azimuthally symmetric modes of a terahertz laser. Diffraction mirrors with a period close to the wavelength are investigated numerically. Good selective characteristics of these mirrors for the generation of radially polarized terahertz laser modes are shown. The absence of polarization-selective properties of large-scale mirrors when using them as output mirrors of a terahertz laser is shown theoretically and experimentally confirmed.
