VISUALIZATION OF FLOW IN A T-BRANCH RECTANGULAR PIPE
摘要
Branched pipes appear in many practical applications such as electrical power plants, engineering machines, and blood vessels. These pipes consist of an inlet pipe and two outlet pipes; the joint between the inlet pipe and the outlet pipes is a 90° angle. In this investigation the flow structure is captured using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) method, carried out using a tracer illuminated by a YAG laser at Reynolds numbers 450 and 840. As a result, the existence of the characteristic flow structure is confirmed even in a T-branch rectangular pipe, the same as in the case of the T-branch circular pipe. Moreover, a pair of swirling flows is observed in the direction of outflow even in the T-branch rectangular pipe.
