摘要

Long-term changes in the concentration of nutrients in the water of the Dnieper River prior to its regulation and in the cascade of the Dnieper reservoirs after their formation are discussed in the paper. It has been found that during the first years the concentration of ammonium, nitrate-ions, and inorganic phosphorus in the water increased because of their influx from the flooded soils. The maximal concentration of inorganic nitrogen compounds was observed in the 1970s. At a later time, the content of ammonium decreased by a factor of 2.0-4.5 and approximated to the values registered prior to the Dnieper River regulation or even somewhat decreased. The concentration of nitrate-ions decreased only in the water of the Kaniv and Kremenchuk reservoirs. However, it remained higher than that registered prior to the Dnieper River regulation. In the water of the Kyiv Reservoir, the concentration of nitrate-ions was closely similar to that registered in the 1970s minus; 1980s. At the same time, the total concentration of inorganic nitrogen decreased to the level observed prior to the formation of the reservoirs, whereas in the Kyiv Reservoir it was even lower. It is likely that this phenomenon was conditioned by a decrease in the intensity of industrial production, and also by the increase in the area occupied by higher aquatic plants capable of assimilating nutrients from the water. The maximal increase in the area occupied by higher aquatic plants was observed in the Kyiv Reservoir. During the period of investigations, the contribution of ammonium to the total balance of inorganic nitrogen gradually decreased (from 80.4 to 30.3%), whereas the contribution of nitrate-ions increased (from 18.1 to 67.6%), which was conditioned by the increase in the intensity of the process of nitrification with time. The increase in the concentration of inorganic phosphorus was registered in the 1970s - 1980s, which was conditioned by the beginning of the mass use of phosphorus-bearing detergents. In this case, N/P ratio in the water of the Kyiv, Kaniv, Kremenchuk, Kamyanka, Dnieper, and Kakhovka reservoirs accounted for 7.9-89.1, 2.4-19.2, 3.7-24.9, 3.5-23.4, 5.7-31.8, and3.4-30.2. Its minimal values were observed in the 1990s. A decrease in N/P ratio is indicative of the formation of favorable conditions to the development of blue-green algae. In the reservoirs of the Dnieper cascade, the concentration of the dissolved silicon varied from season to season depending on the intensity of the development of diatoms. Based on the averaged data, the content of this form of silicon in the water of the Dnieper reservoirs somewhat decreased (by a factor of 1.4-2.3). A decrease in the influx of inorganic phosphorus and inorganic nitrogen compounds into the water can be an effective action for the improvement of water quality in the Dnieper reservoirs.
