摘要
We seek to introduce the reader to the neuropsychological foundations of religious belief, with a view to exploring the intersection of religion, psychology, and ethics. Topics discussed include the nature of religious experience, possible evolutionary origins of religious belief, insights from functional neuroimaging experiments and pharmacologic interventions, and the central role of frontal lobes in religiosity. Hyper-religiosity syndromes and the problem of pathological beliefs are also discussed, drawing on insights provided by Osamu Muramoto, a contemporary clinical neurologist with an interest in the neurological basis of religious behavior.
