摘要

This paper deals with transient natural convection within two-dimensional enclosures, modeled through the streamfunction-only formulation of the flow equations under the Boussinesq approximation and the associated energy equation. The transient version of this classical coupled heat and fluid flow problem was solved through integral transformation, and compared against previously reported numerical solutions. We consider a square air-filled enclosure, with differentially heated lateral walls, and insulated top and bottom walls. Buoyancy effects are taken into account through the Boussinesq approximation, under laminar flow regime. The transient behavior of the coupled heat and fluid flow phenomena was investigated, for different values of the Rayleigh number, Ra.
