Feeding of the Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Parr and Common Minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) in the Small Salmon River
ABSTRAKT
It was stated, that in typical small salmon stream the Indyora River (the Kola Peninsula) the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) parr and common minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) practically do not compete for the food resources, in spite of their high density. Minnows feed on filamentous algae, and salmon parr − exclusively on aquatic and airy insects. Eggs of the pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) over its spawning period serve as significant addition to the salmon parr ration.
