FLOW CHARACTERISTICS IN TWO INTERSECTING FLOW PASSAGES
ABSTRAKT
When the fluids of equal flow rate flowing in two intersecting ducts meet in the intersecting zone, several distinct features experimentally have been disclosed: ramming effect; formation of a flow divider along the symmetrical plane separating the two merging streams; formation of two-separation zones (vortices), one on each side in the downstream flow passages; and formation of an energy source point (location of maximum kinetic energy) on the flow divider. In this paper, the Navier-Stokes equations for both laminar and turbulent flow cases are numerically integrated. Theory predicts all abovementioned phenomena that are empirically observed. Results of numerical visualization agree well with those of experimental ones.
