ABSTRAKT

The dose dependent influence of ethanol on the content of cells in Dunaliella viridis Teod. in batch cultivation has been shown. A single introduction into the culture of small doses of ethanol (0.1-0.3 %) increased the content of cells in culture, while the dose of 0.5 % produced no effect on this index. Multiple, successive introductions of ethanol into the culture were accompanied by the cumulative effect of the alcohol action, that inhibited the growth of culture at the 0.3 % concentration of ethanol and caused its death at the 0.5 % dose of ethanol. The growth inhibition of the culture D. viridis under conditions of multiple introduction of 0.3 % ethanol caused a 2.5-4-fold increase in the content of triacylglycerides. The existence of inverse correlation between the accumulation of triacylglycerides and the intensity of cell division enhanced the synthesis rate of triacylglycerides and, probably, inhibited the rate of their utilization in cells of microalgae. In this case the synthesis rate of b-carotene in the D. viridis cells in the presence of 0.3 % ethanol after its 3-fold successive introductions was 5-8 times lower. At the same time, the utilization of carotenoids also decreased, which retained the b-carotene content at the level of the control variant. Ethanol is a xenobiotic with pronounced metabolic effect on die cells of D. viridis.
