ABSTRAKT

This paper describes a numerical study to optimize the operational parameters used for dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuators in controlling Tollmien-Schlichting waves (TS-waves). The authors use a phenomenological model of the body force induced by the actuators operating in a sinusoidal mode. The simulations are performed using LES and the optimization methods are implemented into a CFD code (FASTEST). The results for two models of numerical optimization are presented: the closed-control circuit (CLC) developed by the authors and a simplex NELMEAD model. The objective function of the optimization is to maximize the reduction of the TS-wave amplitude at the wall while minimizing the consumed power: the appropriate amplitude and temporal duration of the body force is sought. Using the optimum data an application of linear stability theory demonstrates the additional flow stabilizing effect of the plasma actuator.
