PROPAGATION AND FOCUSING OF MODES OF DIELECTRIC RESONATORS OF TERAHERTZ RANGE LASERS
ABSTRACT
Cylindrical vectorial beams have a great number of applications, including electron acceleration, material processing, high-resolution metrology, microellipsometry and spectroscopy. Nevertheless, there are practically no results of investigating specific features of their propagation and focusing in the terahertz frequency range. In the paper the physical features of free-space propagation and effects of moderate and sharp focusing of laser radiation beams are investigated both theoretically (based on the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld vector theory) and experimentally (using emission of a waveguide terahertz range (λ = 0.4326 mm) laser). The beams are excited by the modes of a dielectric resonator with a circular waveguide with different spatial polarization of the field. The obtained results improve the knowledge of specific features of propagation in different zones of diffraction and focusing of terahertz range laser beams.
