ABSTRACT

Data on the numbers, biomass, and population structure of jellyfish (Aurelia aurita and Pleurobrachia pileus) occurring in different regions of the Black Sea in spring 2013 are given in the paper. During this period, the biomass of A. aurita ranged from 15 to 1850 g/m2. Its maximal values were registered in the coastal regions of the Crimea. Adult specimens more than 50 mm in size prevailed. A. aurita consumed mainly Copepoda (Acartia sp.). Its daily ration accounted for 1.5−4.0 mg C/day, or 1−2.5% C of the body. It was essentially lower than food requirements of the animals under given temperature conditions.
