Boiling of a Liquid in the Front of an Exothermal Chemical Reaction
ABSTRACT
The boiling of a liquid has been investigated experimentally and theoretically in the front of an exothermal chemical reaction using as an example a reaction between aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate. The fields of temperature and reagent concentrations have been calculated in the front of a rapid catalytic reaction. The homogeneous nucleation theory has been used to evaluate the boiling temperature in the front of the reaction between aqueous hydrogen peroxide and aqueous potassium permanganate and in adiabatic conditions. The temperature in the reaction zone has been measured, and micro-photographing of this zone has been carried out. The temperature of formation of the first gas bubbles has been determined. The results of experiments are compared with calculations of the boiling temperature.
