ABSTRACT

This paper provides a brief review of the evaporation heat transfer at microgroove surfaces. Along with an improved understanding of evaporation phenomenon, some inadequately studied pulsating hydrodynamic mechanisms were detected. These mechanisms require further investigation and physical explanations. With respect to these requests the authors conducted the presented series of experiments. Experimental study accompanied by visual observation allows a better understanding of the particular evidences of the working fluid pulsating processes occurring at the microgrooves. Evaporation heat transfer measurements for several test sections with water, ethanol, ammonia, acetone, and refrigerant R-113 as the working fluids are presented. Experiments were performed for heat fluxes within the range from 6 to 480 kW/m2 and pressure within the range from 0.015 to 0.3 MPa. Measurements for the surfaces with similar groove spacing and width demonstrated that influence of the groove depth on the heat transfer intensity appears negligible, while the saturation pressure and fluid properties affect the evaporation heat transfer significantly.
