ABSTRACT
Time history of the erosion of the sintered and fused tungsten on the cathode of plasmatron is studied under the current 350 A with nitrogen serving as plasma forming gas. Zones having different erosion mechanisms are localized at the surface of the cathode. Those mechanisms are the metal vaporization from the central area and the entrainment of big fragments from the peripheral area. Keywords: plasmatron, tungsten, cathode, erosion.
