Effect of Agaricus brasiliensis S. Wasser et al. (Agaricomycetideae) Extract on the Functions of Lymphocytes in Mice in Vitro
ABSTRACT
The effects of Agaricus brasiliensis extract (ABE) on the functions of lymphocytes of a mouse spleen in vitro were investigated. Mouse spleen lymphocyte proliferation induced by ConA was assessed using both normal lymphocytes and lymphocytes inhibited by cyclosporin A or hydrocortisone. Mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) was conducted with lymphocytes preincubated with mitomycin C and normal lymphocytes from C57BL/6j mice. ABE (5 ~ 100 μg/mL) can enhance the proliferation of mouse lymphocytes stimulated by ConA in vitro and can partially restore the response of inhibited lymphocytes to ConA within 5 ~ 50 μg/mL. ABE (10 ~ 500 μg/mL) can also enhance mixed lymphocyte reaction. ABE can enhance the immune functions of lymphocyte in vitro.
