ABSTRACT

A reverse analysis based on an adjoint formulation of unsteady forced convection heat transfer is proposed. The numerical solution of an appropriate adjoint problem enables us to predict the heat transfer characteristic, such as the total heat transfer rate or the temperature at a specific location, under arbitrary thermal boundary conditions. As a result, the optimal thermal boundary conditions can be obtained in both time and space.
