ABSTRACT

In this study, an experimental and numerical investigation focused on heat transfer enhancement by jet injection into a separation bubble of a blunt plate at different locations in stream-wise direction. Blunt plates are canonical configuration for the study of separation and reattachment flow phenomena. The injected jet was completely passive, only depending on the cross-flow Reynolds number. To investigate the passive jet influence on the size of the recirculation bubble as well as on the location of the reattachment point, an experimental study was conducted by non-invasive Laser-Doppler anemometry (LDA) close to the blunt plate surface. Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) have been performed to determine vortex structures and their influence on heat transfer of the blunt plate for different jet positions. The study showed that typical shear layer structures evolving at the leading edge, and that the cross jet streams impact local heat transfer rates.
