ABSTRACT

Numerical simulations of High Temperature Reactor cores are presented using the multi-physics tool kit OpenFOAM®. The standard rhoPorousSimpleFoam solver is modified to include a regressed power distribution function as an energy source with the Least Squares method in Mathematica. The reactor cores are modeled using the Porous Media approach, to simulate the whole core. The Darcy and Forchheimer modeling is used to model the Porous Media. Steady-state simulations of turbulent compressible flow are performed, with several turbulent models applied and compared for its accuracy and economy.
