HYGRIC PERFORMANCES OF HEMP−STARCH CONCRETE
ABSTRACT
As a result of growing environmental consciousness, the issues of sustainability and industrial ecology are guiding the development of the next generation of materials and processes. Renewable resources represent an important basis of creating eco-friendly materials such as bio-based composites. Our study focuses on hydric properties of a bio-based composite made with hemp fibres and wheat starch as a binder. The investigations are based on the measurement of moisture buffer value, water vapour permeability and the sorption isotherm curve. The results underline the high moisture transfer and storage capacities of hemp-starch concrete and classify the composite as an excellent hygric regulator.
