ABSTRACT

Better yield in recovery of the alloying elements from the scrap copper alloys stimulated the research to study how to prevent the excess loss of elements like tin and nickel and simultaneously to reduce the harmful iron content to the lowest possible concentration. At first, the oxidation mechanism based on Cu2O being the oxygen carrier in the melt was suggested, and mutual influence of dissolved elements on the oxidation rates was discussed. Mutual correlations on the activities of single elements was analyzed in the Cu-Fe-Zn and Cu-Fe-Zn-Sn systems. Influence of lead and nickel was mentioned.
