A WIDEBAND DUAL-POLARIZED ANTENNA WITH Γ-PROBE AND CORNER REFLECTOR FOR A GLOBAL BASE STATION SYSTEM
SINOPSIS
A wideband dual-polarized dipole antenna with high isolation and stable radiation pattern is proposed for mobile communication and IMT frequency band. The antenna is composed of a pair of radiator dipoles, Γ-shaped probes, and an octagonal corner reflector. A pair of orthogonal Γ-shaped probes at different lengths that improve the impedance matching characteristic is utilized to excite the antenna. In order to improve the polarization diversity performance, dual-polarized antennas are required to have a higher cross-polarization ratio in the azimuth plane. A corner reflector is further proposed to improve antenna performance. In addition, a detailed parametric study is performed to explain the principle of the antenna. Simulated and measured results show that the antenna achieves a wide impendence bandwidth of 50% and a high isolation of better than 30 dB. A stable radiation pattern with 3-dB beamwidth of 65° ± 5° and an average gain of 8.5 dBi were also found over the operating frequencies.
