Excitation of a Diffracted Radiation Generator (Orotron) with a Double-Periodic Structure at Sub-Critical Frequencies
SINOPSIS
The diffracted radiation generator (orotron) with a double synchronous grating, operating in the volume and surface wave modes, is analyzed for frequencies below the critical one for a grating of finite width. It is shown that in an elementary cell of such a periodic structure, the fundamental H10 mode is transformed to modes of separate single gratings when the operating frequency approaches to the critical value. The magnetic field vector H of these modes is directed along the resonator axis. Such oscillations of the elementary cell do not have a critical frequency, since the cell structure is open in the direction of the vector H, i.e. from the side of the mirror.
