Heat Transfer Enhancement in Twisted Boiling Flows
SINOPSIS
The present review paper considers the physical characteristic features of the processes of heat and mass transfer in vapor generating channels with twisted flows (straight tubes with distributed and local swirlers, helical tubular coils, helical slit channels, etc.). Experimental data obtained by research workers in various countries on the following characteristics of twisted flows are given:
• structures and regimes of flow in all of the zones of channels;
• heat transfer to an evaporating medium;
• critical densities of heat fluxes and critical vapor contents in boiling; the temperature regime of the vapor generating surface in the zone of crisis.
Examples of a successful practical application of twisting as an efficient and universal means of heat transfer intensification are given. Certain directions of further research and development are formulated.
