FREE CONVECTION ACROSS A BILAYERED AND INCLINED POROUS CAVITY SUBMITTED TO NONSYMMETRICAL HEATING

SINOPSIS

A numerical study is performed to investigate the effect of tilted cavity on free convection in a bilayered porous enclosure. Both the top and bottom walls are insulated whereas the left and right side walls are uniformly heated and linearly cooled, respectively. A general model including inertia effects and the Brinkman term is being used. The nonlinear coupled dimensionless governing equations are resolved using the control volume method. Results are presented and discussed for inclination angle values between 0° and 60° and a modified Rayleigh number between 102 and 103. The first layer is considered as reference with a porosity of 0.4 and the second layer permeability is changing with a ratio between 10−2 and 103. The numerical results include the stream function and temperature contours, the velocity field, and both local and average Nusselt numbers are presented and discussed. For all simulated cases, it is found that two eddies are formed. The main cell turns clockwise whereas the second turns counterclockwise. The numerical results show the existence of an optimal inclination value that leads to a maximum heat transfer.
