An Update on the Treatment of Chronic Low Back Pain
SINOPSIS
The treatment of chronic low back pain (LBP) remains one of the vexing problems of modern medicine. Much of what is done has a basis in empirical observations and not in investigations designed to demonstrate safety and efficacy. There is a lack of comparative studies to guide decisions as to what diagnostic studies or therapeutic interventions might be the most appropriate. This article summarizes the current most common approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic LBP in the form of a loose algorithm. A summary of pertinent literature is presented for each step of the algorithm.
