Effect of Light Intensity on the Content of Chlorophyll a, Carbon and Nitrogen in Six Species of Dinophyta from the Black Sea (Crimea)
SINOPSIS
The effect of light on the basic structural characteristics of the Black Sea dinoflagellates was studied with reference to six species: Prorocentrum cordatum, P. micans, P. pusillum, Gyrodinium fissum, Scrippsiella trochoidea and Heterocapsa triquetra. The increase of the light intensity from 10 to 344 µmol m−2·s−1 caused a decrease of the chlorophyll content both per cell and per unit of carbon ranged from 2 times for G. fissum and H. triquetra to 5 times for P. micans and P. pusillum. In most species, C/N ratio increased 1.2−1.4 times. The general equation linking cell volume and carbon content was calculated based on original and literature data (C = 0.377·V0.898).
